Anambra State Police Command has recovered an AK-47 rifle from the roof-top of a residential apartment under renovation at Igboukwu, Aguata Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, made this known in a statement on Friday in Awka.

Ikenga said that operatives of the command leveraged on information from residents to recover the rifle at Ihuowele Ngo Village on Friday.

“The Police Command in Anambra leveraging on necessary information from the good indigenes of the state on July 11, 2025 by 12:30pm recovered an abandoned AK-47 rifle in a residential apartment under renovation at Ihuowele Ngo Village, Igboukwu, Aguata LGA of Anambra state,” he said.

According to him, preliminary investigation disclosed that one Samson, allegedly identified as a notorious individual and the former occupant of the apartment, may be connected to the weapon.

He added that Samson has not been seen in the area since June 2024, and efforts are currently ongoing to track and apprehend him.

The police image maker further stated that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the vigilance of the community members and reiterated the importance of Community-Police collaboration.

Ikenga said the commissioner urged the public to continue to provide timely and actionable information that would aid the police in delivering on its mandate of protecting lives and property.

Recall that on Wednesday, the Police-led Joint Task Force, JTF, also recovered an AK-47 rifle allegedly used by suspected gunmen in the gun duel with the JTF at Oko-Ekwulobia flyover, Aguata LGA.
