Popular Nollywood actor, Murphy Afolabi has been laid to rest at his residence in Ikorodu, Lagos State. The thespian, who died on Sunday, May 14, a few days after his 49th birthday, was laid to rest amid tears on Monday evening, May 15. His body was retrieved from the Isolo mortuary, where it had been deposited, and taken to Ikorodu, where it was interred according to Islamic rites. Taiwo Awoniyi has been named in the Premier League Team of the Week for matchday 36. The 25-year-old scored twice in Nottingham Forest’s 2-2 draw against Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge last Saturday. Awoniyi also bagged a brace in Nottingham Forest’s previous game against Southampton. The Tricky Trees moved out of the relegation zone following the win. The Nigeria international has scored eight goals and provided one assist in 25 league appearances for Steve Cooper’s side this season. Awoniyi is the only Nottingham Forest who make the selection.
The Nigeria National League has not made any decision on the venue of the Super Eight playoffs. With two matches left to the end of the 2023 abridged NNL season, the league body is yet to communicate to clubs on the location of the playoffs. Four teams from the Southern and Northern Conferences will compete in the Super Eight. The top four teams in the competition will then gain promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). Katsina United are the only side who have qualified for the NNL Super Eight.
