The chairman of Gumel Local Government Council in Jigawa State, Hon. Lawal Ya’u, has passed away at the age of 61. Ya’u died on Saturday afternoon at a private hospital in Kano, following a brief illness. His death was confirmed to DAILY POST by a family source, who disclosed that the late chairman is survived by two wives and several children. A retired civil servant, Lawal Ya’u was elected chairman of Gumel Local Government Council in August 2024. He has since been laid to rest in his hometown of Gumel, in accordance with Islamic rites.
